He Loves Me, Not...

I have a blinding migraine and lots of bad news.

My lots in life I suppose.

Shabbos was nice though. Sammy's friend Debra was here. Friday night we walked to Aviv and back again. Were asleep by midnight. Made it to shul on time and then there was a kiddush. Was supposed to go for a walk with the tall one but I slept all afternoon instead. The hammock has become quite a challenge to sleep on due to 2 popped strings.

After shabbos I drove Freddie to Aviv and we picked up the Woof. Back at Home I found out some annoying information.

I'm off to sulk.
Maybe to think.
My head hurts a lot.
Shoulder to cry on?
Somebody?
Anybody?

For My Partner...

Who let's me wear my cape.

Ponder today upon the complex simplicity of figments.

Figments of pie, figments of chicken and figments of wackiness displayed by insane siblings of mine.

I can't believe I went to sleep at almost 4 in the morning so that I could get the laundry done. There is an insane sharav and it is 30 degrees celsius. The laundry that I hung out on the line at 3:00 this morning was dry by 7. It is hot out there.

My horoscope today says, "Social situations are the wild card in the celestial hand you're dealt today. " and it also says, "It's going to get weird for you as you're called upon to make a big decision that you don't think you're quite ready for. See if you can stall until more information comes in -- things will clear up soon." Should I be worried? I mean, I won't because it won't do any good - but still...

Sammy's friend Debra is coming for Shabbos. Sammy won't even be Home for most of it because something about a kiddush in Aviv. We're going to be having a kiddush in shul tomorrow. It's the 'welcome all new families' kiddush. Should be nice.

Fact of the day: A single batch of chocolate chip cookie dough, when scooped with a small ice-cream-scooper makes anywhere between 50-54 cookies. That SHOULD tide us over, right?

Have a good one!

Endless Daze...

Me, Mommy and Daddy went to Jerusalem this morning. We walked around and got breakfast then dropped Daddy off at the car and went our separate ways. Then Mommy and I wandered around town until Brenda and Michalie showed up. The four of us then took a trip to Geula and wandered some more. On the bright side, I did get some nice clothing for chag. We also found some cute things to make sukkah decorations.

Finished 'Girl With A Pearl Earring' - the book was complex and richly textured. The movie, simply stated - was not the book.

It's ALL my fault again. The room is messy and I am supposed to fix it. Mind you, I haven't actually slept in the room in about a month now - but still. All my fault.

Stupidity and Moronic Icons...

I had an amusing conversation with a friend today. The friend shall remain anonymous, but the point is still amusing and poignantly true...

Lorelai says: yeah.
Lorelai says: they like commitment.
Friend says: i hate that word dont mention it
Lorelai says: lol! so do most guys...

Long lazy morning in which I bothered Little Brother, Becca and Debs (who has been reduced to letters once again.)

Work was ridiculous. Sent the new girl to the post-office and sat dumbfounded and gaped at the slow pace that she worked at. Will they keep her around? I wonder. Seriously. I mean, I dunno - she really DOES remind me of someone who once was around and was sacked after a few months (or was it weeks?) Ok, maybe it's a personality clash. Maybe it's all me. Maybe I am more of a Witch (with a capital B) than I thought.

In addition, let me take this opportunity to say that in the last four months I have become more Witchy and obnoxious than ever. I give attitude even when I don't mean to. It's not intentional, I promise.

Anyway - at 7:30 my boss called me to find out if I was still in the vicinity of the office because he had forgotten his office-key at home and couldn't exactly lock up without one. I told him 'no' and got on the bus feeling very proud of myself. Sad thing is, if I hadn't been heading Home I probably would've turned around and gone back to the office.

What a pathetic sissy I am.

Is it true what they say that "it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all" I mean, one wonders. Not that I have any experience or claim any expertise in the field - just a thought related to a memory that surfaced unbidden in the back of my mind today.

Becca and Chelibeli sent me THE sweetest e-mails. I love you gals down under. Just thought you should know, you made my day.

I'm Home tonight and exhausted too. Sleep? Well, the A/C has been cleaned so all I have to do is put my bed back together and clean the room. Again.

What I wouldn't give for a hammock moment tonight.

I've got to admit. I wouldn't give anything,

But there's not much I wouldn't give...

All I Ever Wanted...

Spent the morning in transit. Though, first I chilled at Home and then a bit at the Ranch. I took chicken soup from Mommy and it is now safely stowed away in the freezer for the cold nights ahead.

Work was as usual. I think the new girl dislikes me, or tries to pretend that I don't exist. I think that she is sore about the fact that as the 'new girl' she has to do more of the dirty work. (IE post office duty.) Today the Head Boss asked me to finalize my agenda for the year. Looks like I'll be taking on 8 hours a day at the office and will probably have to lose my 'free-Thursday' every month. I'm going to have less of a life than I have now and will probably pull my hair out and/or go insane. (Like toll-collectors on the highway.)

Walked to and through a whole bunch of parks. Played solitaire and Go Fish. Comfy on the grass.

Hooray for sweatshirt weather!!!

Thanks Little Brother!!!

Sukkot is coming!!!

I've Been Mooned by Marshall...

Spent last night at the Zwebners with Shani and Sawa. We watched Hercules and Holes and ate pizza. My phone rang more times in about an hour than it has rung in the last three weeks. Got home at 2:45ish and didn't get to sleep until 3:30ish.

Woke up at 7:30ish and couldn't fall back asleep. Got up and remembered that it was a fast-day. Knitted with Mom and Judy M. at their 'crafting morning bonding time' - it was cute. I knitted while Judy quilted and Mommy sewed Bernie's head back on.

Packed up a bag and headed into The City. Work. Yeah, I delegated. Sis, you woulda been so proud of me. I was forceful and obnoxious. But, end result was - I didn't go to the post office and the new girl did. (And she messed up the check. Even more 'big time' than I ever did.) With the bosses permissions I left the office at 5 and made it Home in time to help make decorations for Savta's birthday party and whip up some frosting for the cake.

A proper bagels n' lox break-fast. lol! I like this tradition. Oh yes, and the onion soup.

I am sooooooo full. Maybe I won't eat tomorrow either.

Unless Tamar J. brings cookies to the office.

Then I might have to make an exception.

I Want a Sweatshirt Too...

Well, shabbos was nice and chag was nice. Basically, it was all nice.

Lots of quality time with Little Brother and Shani and we went to Aviv and ate at the Grotskys and I actually managed to finish all of Sefer Tehillim. We napped and shmoozed and davened and walked and danced and had a very good time.

The food was good and company was better and it was quite enjoyable.

We played Rummikub and Shani was on my team and we won. Twice.

Now it's all over. A new year has begun and things go on as ever with the smallest of changes.

Freddie is going back to the city tonight and I am the one staying Home.

Life goes on and all things change.

May they be for the better.

Happy New Year...

Paste Duck?

There is a new kitten in our backyard. Dibble found it and brought it Home. He has dubbed it Fox in Socks Sir. It's cute enough. Little and red with white knee socks on all four paws.

Wishing you all those wonderful things that everyone wishes to everyone else on Erev Rosh Hashana.

Have a great Shabbos and a Chag Sameach.

See ya next year...

P.S. Be sure to say Hello to our newest friend down in the sidebar. His name is Fuzzie and he is a hamster. Feel free to feed him a strawberry. He likes strawberries!

Oooooh Chayalim...

I actually ran errands this morning. I felt so productive.

Work, yeah so I did an emergency run to the bank. I got an awful blister from my shoe.

After work I went on a shopping spree then met up with Debs and we ran to the Old City. Made it to the Cardo for Mincha and then falafel and uno in the over-look (with company...)

After maariv I waited with Debs to get a cab and then settled down to wait for the Mishpucha.

First Freddie showed up and finally the rest of the gang trickled in (all except Eli who is up in Tzfat until motzei yom kippur.)

No pizza, just soda in glass bottles. Guess it's a good thing I got the 15 function pocket knife for Daddy and not the dinky little 5 function like Sammy and I have.

The car ride was peaceful and now it's time to sleep. In the guestroom? Well, I'm sharing it with Sammy either way - so it's kind of like 'normal' - that is SUCH a relative term in this house.

I'm off to bed. It IS erev-chag.

#7?

Morning. Was. The end.

Work. Well, I've figured out my purpose at the office. See, I thought that according to the job description that I was hired to be an executive assitant for my boss. Turns out, I am an executive assistant for 3 people in addition to essentially becoming the graphics department after 3. I am also the errand girl and mail-person all the while I am also head of filing and chief of newspaper drawer-organizing. I know, it doesn't seem like a lot and I know it doesn't look like anything glamorous and frankly it isn't - but you'd think I'd get a bit more appreciation. After 3 I keep the office running. You know all that stuff I listed earlier? Well, I neglected to mention the 6 phone lines that never stop ringing. Oh yeah, and today I finally realized that I actually spend a good chunk of time EVERY-DAY fixing up other people's mistakes and redoing things that were done wrong.

I got an amusing e-mail this morning. I refuse to write back. I will not. I simply won't.

Tonight I have a date with Shosh. I think we're going to pick up some chinese and go eat in the park. I love parks and I love this weather. It's perfect sweatshirt weather and a little windy too. Hopefully the clouds will clear and we'll get some stars...

Scyoozee?

Spent quite an enjoyable morning with my Nootch. First we had brunch at Rimon followed by a trip out to the 5 shekel mumble-jumble bookstore. We had no brilliant strokes of luck so we went over to our favorite rare and antique bookstore next-door.

After parting ways I headed to the office. My boss tried to buy my life - luckily my Big Sis wasn't about to sell me out (especially for a measly 50 shekels.) No comments about work - just in case the boss DOES decide to 'google-it.' Hmmmmm, nah, I can kvetch he's not that comp-savvy. Nonetheless, *Ahem* hint hint - raise?

I'm getting excited about Rosh Hashana. I've invited guests and I am quite looking forward to it.

I'm off to read some more Rudyard Kipling. I found a great copy of ten-stories on our escapade today.

Wallow...wallow...wallow...wallow...

Many Mumbling Mice...

Actually had a quiet morning this morning. Finally finished The Shell Seekers and lazed about.

Work. Ha. Yeah. Full stop.

Bagels for dinner. Worked on the gum wrapper chain a bit and sat on the jungle-gym. There was a water-fountain in the park.

Are you sure I don't belong in a circus?

I feel like an exhibit.

Really, I do.

Ear Egg Elephant...

The ranch woke up feeling generally ill this morning. I was the only shnook who actually left the apartment and trudged to work. (to trudge: to walk in abject misery.)

At the office I was brow-beaten, ignored and made to feel generally stupid and incompetent. I love those days. I sincerely pray that I did not seem as dumb and doe-eyed as our newest assistant. Oh yes, and I've come to a decision - no more "Lori Story" time at work. It's not worth it to bother talking about myself - it doesn't make me feel any better and it doesn't really help. So, I've decided to just kvetch to Toffee before falling asleep at night. At least he listens and never talks back.

After work I met up with my Freddie. We stopped off to pick up some food for our 'feast.'

Back at the ranch, everything was my fault and well, basically - it's all my fault.

Ok, I get the point - I'm a selfish spoiled brat.

And egotistical.

Sorry States...

Shabbos was really nice. I joined a whole bunch of people at Afikei. We ate at Brochie and slept in the dorms. Apartment one has always freaked me out. Made it to shul and got a Friday night walk in too.

After Shabbos we baby-sat for the Weinbergs and then headed back to the ranch. Walked out to the Angel's factory for some fresh rolls.

Late night. How unusual...

New week.
Novel.

Quality Time...

Early start on a morning that I was going to sleep late - but MORE than worthwhile...

Shacharit at the Kotel followed by fresh Onkers bagels in the rova. Then to Geulah through Meah Shearim and out to the shuk for some nuts and veggies. Quick stop in TM and the bakery for challah.

Now it's time to take an Erev Shabbos nap and then get ready to pack and go out to Bayit V'gan.

Shabbos is going to be great - I'm soooo excited!!!!

Have a great one!

Lady Luck...

So much for sleeping in. I was woken up at 7:30 this morning and couldn't fall back asleep so I got up and started doing laundry and cleaning.

Thank goodness it was Thursday and I only had to be at work for 3.5 hours. Tensions were high, tempers were on, the phones rang ceaselessly and for the record - filing newspapers is NOT that confusing.

After work I went to the park to shmooze, play boggle and uno. I visited the dragon in his garden. (He used to seem so much more intimidating as a little kid. Or maybe it was as a tourist?...)

It was really good and then it was really bad.

Where exactly did I go wrong?

I think I was toooo Lori.

Am I that scary?

I wonder...

The Perks of Parks...

Woke up this morning to a very happy sight - my Nootch surprised me!!!

Shosh and I went out to Beit HaDfus to the clearance sale at the Feldheim warehouse. Ok, now as much of a fan of books as I am - I am even more a fan of clearance sales at books-stores! I got 8 books for the whoppingly ridiculous price of 120 shekels. On the way back to the Ranch we picked up some fresh rolls from the bakery and all I can say is, "nothing beats PB&J on a fresh roll in the morning."

Work was as usual. At least I didn't have to go to the post-office. Ok, so I shirked responsibility - whatever, I'll just go tomorrow.

After work I met up with Debs. We went to town and after much debate (and a convo with Little Brother) we got pizza. Then we made our way back to our side of town.

I am a fan of playgrounds and especially of jungle-gyms.

Tomorrow the dragon...

Marshmellows on Fire...

Woke up to shocking experiences. Mommy and Daddy came to check out our 'electric water' situation. After experimenting (with me as the human conducter/tester) we headed to the 'Gichon' to take care of some annoying paperwork and pour more of my shekels into the Israeli whatever-ya-call-it.

At the office it was a reular psychotic Tuesday. Phones ringing off the hooks, e-mails not going through, finishing everyone else's semi-started work oh yeah and I went to the post office too. What's that, second time in 3 days?! No comment.

Back at the Ranch I made up a double batch of garlic-knots and waited for the party to arrive. Freddie, Woof, Sara and Tova all came to visit. Freddie brought a ton of nosh and we drank lots and lots water.

When is a Brita filter's filter considered not to filter? I mean, a year later the water still tastes better if you at least run it through the thingamajig. But does it really make a difference?

For the record, I conduct (on average) 4 volts of electricity through my body. Which, somehow is not as much as the ceramic soap-dish in my bathroom which conducts 6 volts.

I just can't measure up.

Maybe tomorrow...

Gotta Be...

chilled/funky/cute/put-togetherish and still able to get dirty.

This morning I chilled with Debs for a bit then headed out to Malcha with my one and onlyest Nootch! We finally caught a 5 and then had a wonderfully amusing 2 hours in the mall - wandering around and finding new hobbies. Then we caught a bus into Town where we wandered and I got fro-yo with sprinkles and caramel galore...

Work was amusing enough. I suppose. Hila, (the newest addition to the troops) started working today. Her goal is to teach me Hebrew. Let's see if she can help... Plus I had an amusing shmooze with my big sis this morning. (Sis, I wanna hear some of those wild stories...)

After work I headed to the Old City where I played rummikub and spit for a couple of hours.

On the way back to the Ranch I met up with Freddie and we went to the Woof's dirah. Then we went to Angel's and Freddie got me a yummy big cheese bourekka.

Back on the Ranch the girls were waiting with Fries, crispy and salted to perfection.

Mancala, shmoozing and snide remarks about my lack of involvement in cleaning the apt.

Sleep time? I think yes...

Sunday, September 10, 2006

Thank you Shani...

Baaaaaaad morning. Took a bus back to Jeru and we stalled 4 times on the highway.

Work, yeah - so the 'new lady' has decided to move on to better things, leaving me (once again) on my own. Told the bosses that I could theoretically work more hours. Maybe I'll get a raise, I mean, it's only been 10 months... After a screaming match with some twit at some publication I left work late.

I was in no mood to go back to the ranch. I needed to get out. Thank heavens for friends and friends of friends. So, I finally met Gigush. We shopped and shmoozed and yeah, I enjoyed.

Many thanks to everyone who listened to me gripe today, helped me out today, cheered me on today and bought me drinks today...

I owe you one.

What's an Orgeel?...

Whoa. Talk about a laid back Shabbos.

Friday night - ok, so it wasn't quiet but it was very chilled (after WW? anyway.) Sleep is always nice.

Shabbos day - Shul was freezing cold and lunch at the Kowals was REALLY nice - they are a really cute family. Shabbos nap 1/2 on the hammock and 1/2 in Alaska - of course I fell asleep in my book. 3 cheers for another Arthurian interpretation! Ora came so we shteiged a bissel then headed over to Saba & Savta. 3 more cheers for chocolate/mint ice-cream!!! After havdala Saba drove us Home.

Tonight I think I'm going to steal all of Sammy's music then pack. In the morning it's back to the city, life and 2 weeks of 'fun'(?)...

*Wonders...*

At the edge of concsiousness is the line where reality and the fantastical meet, mesh and blend.

What is real?

Is it all in our minds?

Who knows...

Have a great Shabbos!

Thursday, September 07, 2006

Ok, so he looks good in uniform...

Made granola bars and went to work. Left the office a little late (not that anyone is ever going to compensate me or take note of how much I actually work there.) Oh yeah, and I want you to know that I went to the post-office for the THIRD time this week. What happened to "we're getting a new person, don't worry you won't have to go to the post-office every time anymore." Oh yeah. I think the correct phraseology would be something along the lines of BS and I don't mean Bet Shemesh this time. Tell me about over-worked and under-paid. *Sigh.*

Now I'm Home. Sammy, Shani and I are having a girl's night - the usual, movies and gossip thing. Gotta love it! Just stay awy from those pictures. And Shani, that is SOOOO wrong.

Thus the weekend begins...

Shopping, Shlepping, Shluffing...

So this morning we did our first REALLY big shopping since before Pesach. (It's been a while.) I can't believe how much we shlepped on our backs.

After a 'real lunch' I headed to work. Not much to report - but we were all happy (especially in sunshiny yellow.)

I remembered to take my bagels back to the ranch so I guess I have something for breakfast now.

I'm ever so sleepy and it's Wednesday. That means that I'm going Home tomorrow night. That means I have to do laundry and pack up my stuff.

ZZzZZzzZzz... G'nite World.

Purple Crocs & Princesses...

Woke up late and went out to the makolet with Shosh. Back at the Ranch Sas stopped by with Aryeh and they took all of her stuff. Well, now the apartment is empty...

Work was quiet. I played with dividers and spoke to Daddy and Sammy and Erika came by to visit and they brought me bagels. TJ is working in the office a 9-6 so it's lots of fun! So nice to see her again - she's such a sweetie-pie!!! (Don't worry Sis, she won't take up your special place in my heart.)

After work I went out for dinner and a really nice night-time stroll.

Things are funny - Life is quite a journey - and the attitude that you face it with makes all the difference.

The beginning and end are important but semi-irrelevant -

Savor your experiences and enjoy the ride...

Life's Little Anomalies...

So here I am 21 and loving it. Please allow me to elaborate...

So, work was amusing enough. The real 'kicker' was right before I left. I was told to call a paper in Argentina and find out why their fax machine wasn't working. I dialed and a lady picked up.
"Mundo Israelita" she said.
"Hello, I'm calling from..."
"No, no, yo no hablo ingles."
"Tu habla Hebreo?"
"No, espanol y iddish."
"ummm.... shniya..."
Ok, so now that I've deduced that the lady speaks no hebrew or english but that she does speak yiddish - I know, call the boss and let him take care of it. He grew up in Har Nof - he MUST speak Yiddish. A little? Not at all?!?! Oh my goodness.

After leaving the office only 10 minutes late and laughing so hard that my eyes teared - I caught a 21 out to Bayit V'gan. I spoke to Freddie and we worked out our time-schedule to meet up visit Dum and Debra and get back to our ranches asap. Lo and behold, as we reached the turn to Dovd Meretz, Dum called to tell us that we shouldn't bother coming because they had a shiur scheduled. I said "let's see who the speaker is." Debra made my day when she informed me that the sheet had Rabbi Lauffer listed as the speaker. He pulled up and as he opened the car-door the first words out of his mouth were "Polly, what the heck are you doing here? You following me?" Anyway, it was really really (add a few more reallys) good. I got to talk to him and then got a chizuk shiur to start my 'shana daled' off properly ended by another short conversation. I am sooooo thankful for my Rebbeim and Teachers!!! Have I ever mentioned how much hakarat hatov I owe them?!?!

After saying g'nite to Dum and Debra, (and giving Dum my map of the city) Freddie and I headed off to TM to get some dinner. Yay for tastreats and bourrekas!!! Then we shmoozed as we shpatzired back to the bus-stop.

Back at the Ranch my Dunce is making me clean up.

I think I'll go hide behind a hot chocolate.

I took the Denim jacket out!

Winter is coming!

Disconcerting Comments...

Long lazy morning - the only self-quality time I really have this week. So, I ran a few errands and finally stopped procrastinating and got my glasses re-aligned so that they sit straight on my face. Now I can even wear them if I ever actually go out on a date - (yeah right, like that'll ever happen.)

This afternoon work work work. Nothing fun looks to be in store. Just doing 4-6 peoples' work for wages that kid's in sweat-shops and factories in the Orient receive. (I'm not bitter, am I?)

Did you know that entrance level jobs in certain fields get you a salary of... Never mind.

Happy note - Dum arrives today with the D.B. group flight. Hopefully Freddie and I will get out to Bayit V'gan to see her tonight. I'm excited for that - we should probably bring her some food - I remember my first night in the dorms - it was fun but I was sooooo hungry and we had no idea where to go to buy food.

If anything of interest comes up - I'll let you know. Be forewarned, don't hold your breath. My expectations are not too high...

The Kallah Wore White Crocs...

Went into the office early so that I could leave early. The head bosses are away for a few days so it was quiet. (Especially seeing as one person was fired, Feige has officially moved-on, and the 'new lady' (rumor has it) won't last very long...)

Rushed back to the ranch and then ran out to find ice-cream before getting dressed for the wedding. I wore my new pretty ball-gown skirt (that Mommy made for me) and I think I looked put together enough (though, Mrs. S was unimpressed by my choice of foot-wear.)

It was quick and painless and now Sassy is married. At least I got a nice Bracha before being forgotten about and brushed to the side. Whatever, I'm used to it. No sweat. Though, it was nice to see the extended Afikei gang.

Shosh and I got a few good pics and I even got to talk to R' L. and tell him about my latest escapades.

Tomorrow it's 'back to normal' and Dorian arrives. Fun Fun Fun...

Freddie & James in Bed...

Shosh was over for Shabbos which was really really nice. Friday night after shul and the meal we headed out to Nofei Aviv. It was the usual hub-bub and nobody overly interesting was around. We got Home late and went to sleep after a few drinks ;) and a couple of trips up and down the stairs. Made it to Shul on time Shabbos morning. The lights and A/C were out - soon the lights came on but there was no miraculous recovery for the A/C. After shul and a kiddush to welcome all the new people to the community and a long loud lunch we slept for a few hours. Then we headed out to Saba & Savta's house for a birthday cake for Brenda. After Shabbos Saba drove us Home. Mommy finished my skirt and then Shosh and I caught a bus back to Jeru.

I have to be at the office early cause Sassy's wedding is tomorrow night.

Guess I should get some sleep.

I'm not making fun...

But I sure as heck am laughing!!!

(So I've decided to see if I can write an e-mail just like you. Don't worry - because as I am sure you know, "imitation is the highest form of flattery." Ok, here goes...)

Hi,

I am doing fine.
Nothing much going on.

Take care.
-Lori

(Wow, that was hard...)

*Ahem...* Sorry, I honestly couldn't control myself.
