True to life, proven by Oreo Cookies, the middle really is the best part.
The office was nuts today. Pizza parties and bouncing off the walls. Did I do anything productive? Umm, I plead the fifth.
Hmmm... I think that's what I want when I go to Merry Ca, vanilla sandwich cookies and a tall glass of milk. Chaval it'll be American milk, but you can't have everything.
Off to 'watch a movie' with Freddie.

Sorry for spreading the ucky-ness today. I'll try to be happier...
I picked up mushrooms for Rochel. Am I a good friend or what? Refuah Sheleimah to her. Being sick is NEVER fun.
As I walked I realized how funny it was that I wore a tee-shirt to work this morning and a light sweatshirt back to The Ranch. Has ANYBODY noticed what the date is?! It's almost December! I LOVE this country. (Though, we really do need some rain...)
Oh yeah and there is a strike so Mitch and Nancy are stuck in The Holy Land! Heehee, what a shame! ;) So, how long can we keep you for? I'd love to spend a Shabbos with you - it HAS been about a year since the last time!!!
Tuesday, November 28, 2006
Started off at work (where else) and then I nipped out to the post office. The line was long so I waited and then I was hungry so I went to find food. On the way I found Mommy and Nancy in town. Back at the office it was quiet and busy. Crazily oxymoronic mix, but that's what it was.
Thought I'd leave early to head Home for S&S's anniversary dinner but turns out the mishpucha was coming up to The City, so I wound up staying at work late. (Twisted, huh?)
Dinner was at Norman's. Yep that makes it Norman's twice in one week and better yet, twice in two days. It was the Pollys, the Halperts, S&S and even a Preiser cause cousin Chaim showed up with Freddie.
It was good. I mean, aside from me making a fool of myself and almost falling through a wall that was not a wall TWICE and the ice-cream falling on the floor and wasting mushrooms and cheek smushing and Dibble-poking and waitresses passing out...
All in all it was actually one of the more successful family outings that I can remember. Only Avi cried, Ezri behaved, Brenda and Squiggles drank a can and 1/3 of cream soda. Must admit we missed you Eli. Really, we did. One of these days you need to come into The City and I'll take you out. :)
Harumph - I really should try to be more 'friendly' - who knows what it might get me.

First there was learning that the difference between Freddie's map-reading ability and actually getting to the destination have nothing in common.
Then we learned that onion rings and french fries do not have the same nutrition facts as carrots and cucumbers - even though they are all vegetables.
Funniest phrase uttered today came from the depths of Freddie's wisdom as we walked down a narrow street somewhere in an attempt to locate the car, "You face that way and I'll tell you when a car is coming. Ok, there's a car comin!" - So, maybe you had to be there. It was funny! Really funny. Really, I promise it was.
Back at the Ranch I was informed that because I don't eat 'normally' (which granted, I don't) that I am making life or eating in general very difficult. It seems that my messed-up-ness causes a lack of motivation in the cooking department thereby resulting in nobody eating 'properly.' Clearly this is all my fault and to rectify the situation I must change my eating habits and become a 'normal eating person.' I think I'm going to be sick.
I shall borrow tonight's final thought from Dr. Seuss who explained that, "when beetles battle beetles in a puddle paddle battle and the beetle battle puddle is a puddle in a bottle they call this a..."
Eggplant Parmesan anybody?

Walked to work but didn't almost get hit by any busses. The office was quiet today. Probably because it was Sunday. On a side note MAZAL TOV NAOMI!!! Walked back to the Ranch and was nice and warm cause I have a wonderful new sweatshirt of my very own!!!
I really really wanted to shower, but as I mentioned in the first line of this post - the door is jammed shut. So what did we do? Well, we did what all normal people do, we went to ask our neighbors for help. Next question, why do they have such good water pressure?! Anyway, after a hot shower I sat down on their couch to wait for the Rabbi to get home. When he walked in we told him about our plight, so he grabbed a toolbox and came over.
Problem #1: Pin in doorknob on the INSIDE of the door.
Problem #2: Only entrance to the bathroom being the bathroom window.
Problem #3: Me being the only one able to do the gymnastics to get into the bathroom via the window in order to remove corroded pin from door-knob.
Solution: Throw Lori in through the window with an awl, plier, screwdriver and hammer.
P.S. All of the window climbing and neighbor bothering was to no avail. The door won't budge.

Woke up at 7 and made it to shul on time. Shul was freezing cold and mind-numbingly boring so I left after maftir. Lunch was nice. Random but nice.
I think my tush is still asleep from sitting on the front porch for so long. But Avi did read Fox in Socks to me - which was delightful.
After Havdala I got a ride into Jeru with Daddy. We stopped at the Plaza to pick up Mitch and Nancy (who will be staying at Home until Wednesday afternoonish.) Freddie and Little Brother arrived and after some shmoozing and introductions the 4 young'uns headed off to town. QUICK NOTE HERE: THANK YOU LITTLE BROTHER!!!!!! Anywho, we wandered for a while and lost one to the crowd then hopped on a bus back to the Ranch. Little Brother decided to go home so Freddie and I ate our feast and now I'm not sure what to do.
It's a thought.
BTW, I have 21 cartisiot sitting on my shelf and waiting to be origami-fied...
A broken bathroom door - and thus the week begins...

Look what I did at work this week -
Shabbos is coming.
Let's see how badly this unfolds.
I'm not a pessimist, just a down-hearted realist.
Have a good one.
SPECIAL WEEKEND FEATURE:
For the non-squeamish friends that I do or don't have -
check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5vBcMBu1L8
Little Brother passed his course chovshim (was there ever any doubt?)
So, he and a friend practiced what they learned and put it online for everyone to see the useful things that you can learn in an army-medics course...

I got on at TM at 7:00 (because the bus came late.)
I got off the bus at 9:00 (because there was traffic.)
Somewhere around 8:45 the driver took a detour up a road a little less-wide than the bus and it subsequently wound up being a dead-end with ditches on either side.
Late. Always late. That is my life.
And by the time I've caught up I've missed all the good stuff.

Work was. Chaya is back from her trip so I wasn't alone at the front after everyone left. Had some bonding time with my Big Sis :P over potatoes and tomatoes. (Ok, so really it was more like me driving her nuts and her putting up with me... but that IS what younger siblings are for, right?)
Anywho, so there I am trying to get the last bits of pink nail polish off of my recently traumatized nails. I'm sitting at the table and rubbing away trying to figure out why the remover smells so bad and why it is doing such a gawdawful job of getting the stuff off when I stop for a second and realize, "Lori, you idiot! That's rubbing alcohol..."
Of course, only post the shower do I actually remember the reason that we don't do laundry and use the water simultaneously.
P.S. Cookies from the Greenfields. Lol! It is very nice to have friendly neighbors!

Walked to the office. Mommy came to visit and we got bagels for lunch. I spent 4 hours all by myself in the office. (It was the singularly most boring thing that I have done in the last 6 months next to listening to a guy sing his own praises...)
After work I walked back to the Ranch and then headed out again to meet up with Shosh and Freddie for some Rosh Chodesh dinner.
It was good. Very good. Though the dude spoiled our plot and didn't include the vegetables.
I must concur on two counts though,
the first being the old adage of "boys will be boys"
and the second that, in all honesty it really is:
"אי אפשא לאכל צ'יפס בלי קטשופ..."

Anyway - tonight is ראש חדש so I can consider it a 'splurge' can't I?
The walk back to the Ranch was brisk.
Went swimming and the pool wasn't crowded at all.
The second walk back to the Ranch was coooold.
Next time, I'll have to take a coat.
I had my first סופגניה of the season.
ריבת חלב and pool-time all in one day?
I suppose today wasn't so terrible after all...
Sunday, November 19, 2006
I watched the sky lighten and the day begin.
Took an early bus and a guy played games on his phone.
Work actually went pretty smoothly. I can almost handle Sundays.
Chicken soup tastes good - but I burnt my tongue.
Plugged in the heater cause it was cold.
Watch out for the balloons.
Skip the rope.
Saturday, November 18, 2006
Warm and content in fuzzy new sweatpants.
A good book and a teddy bear. Lazing about in an overstuffed chair.
Brisk walks, long speeches, elegant descents, flowing sleeves.
Good food and long naps.
Helping others win.
Friday, November 17, 2006
I really do love my nephew - even though we don't see each other much... (Owing to my laziness mostly.) Sis, don't sulk. One of these days I'm gonna get up off my lazy tush and then you won't be able to get me out of your house. (Except of course for when we're going out to do some 'arts-n-crafts...)
Also, I'd like to say Thank You to my Little Brother for coming to visit me, for making me smile and for being my cheer-leader when times seem to spiral into darkness. Oh yeah, and thanks for the picture.
Everyone, may I present - DUCKIE...
(And Thanks to Shani we know that he says, "Quac I Luv You...")
Have a splendiferous Shabbos everyone!

Something must be up in the atmosphere, because strange things are happening. It isn't even like I've been walking into walls, I mean, that wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary. But I've been having the weirdest dreams and every time I pass by a payphone it starts to ring.
OK, so you could suggest staying away from payphones so as not to hear the annoyingly metallic buzz of the ringer but how do I get away from the dreams that haunt my subconscious mind?
Time at the office has been a nightmare lately. I am enjoying the full-time position, because as the name implies, I am kept busy full time. However, there are many specifics which are either overlooked or under-looked and they incessantly grate upon my nerves. In addition, I am beginning to feel that though people keep telling me to relax and that 'work' is just 'work' and it's not 'life' - that in effect, due to the fact that I spend over 1/3 of my day at the office, that 'work' has intruded upon my 'life-space' and has in effect completely taken over. I'm not bitter or anything, but I kind of miss having the ability to run hither-and-yon at the spur of the moment. Not that I did it often, but we often don't miss that which we have until it is denied us or simply taken away.
On a different note, iced coffee is not the brightest of ideas when one's hands are freezing cold. Somehow, a steaming mug of anything would seem much more sensible. But I have never been overly sensible. Following this random line of thought, I would like to pose to you a question that I have been pondering for the last few moments. What is the most correct way to eat a bagel? I mean, the order that I eat it is always dependant on my mood. Sometimes the bottom first and sometimes the top. Strange? Yes. I know.

Work was crazy. I hate it when people get special priveleges for being family.
Walked back to the Ranch. It was drizzling on my head.
What nice things happened today? Well, let me think...
1. Played telephone-tag with Z all day but we finally caught up with each other and had a looong conversation. (You were pushing our 1 hour limit buddy...)
2. Naomi Loves me. We did a BIG order from Office-Depot for the office and she ordered regular ball-point pens for me!!!
3. Got to leave work a little early.
4. I finally have a ticket for my trip to America in January!!!
And I thought I do strange things but back at the Ranch I was trying to make dinner when I heard funny noises coming from outside. So I looked through the little peep-hole and saw, much to my amusement - a bored guy waiting for the elevator. How did I know he was bored? Easy, while waiting he was hopping on one leg in circles. Finally the elevator door opened and he teetered on the brink of collapse and stumbled into the elevator.
Hey, I got a good laugh out of it...
Monday, November 13, 2006
I love being busy.
I hate this.
After work I headed towards שערי צדק to visit with Freddie. We went for some פלאפל (but they ran out of Laffas, so I had to get a Pita.) The Falafel itself was pretty good but the Chips were the best part. (Like Chinese sweet & sour chicken, but with potato instead of chicken.)
I proceeded to make my way back to the Ranch and drink 4 cups of chocolate milk and eat a pita pizza.
For dessert Shosh and I polished off the rest of the sour sticks.
I am feeling decidedly bloated and disgustingly full.
Well, at least I don't have to be at the office for another 12 hours.
Thats a bright side. Right?
Sunday, November 12, 2006
Work was a semi-nightmare. After 4 I was the ONLY secretary in the office. Good thing I only had ummm, how many things to do. Incidentally, I didn't get a lunch break (yes, that does mean that I worked 8 hours straight) so I left 10 minutes early.
So, what nice things happened today? Let me think...
1. The bus didn't run me over on the way to work.
2. Little Brother came to visit and make fun of me at work.
3. My hands only almost froze on the way back to the Ranch.
5. Comfy PJ's and a HUGE cup of Hot Cocoa in my new mug!!!
Tonight's agenda has some fun planned.
Not sure what we're going to do yet.
But I'm sure we'll figure it out...
Saturday, November 11, 2006
Cooking wasn't as crazy as I thought it would be. Sleeping space worked out and it turned out to be quite an interesting mix of people.
There were 10 of us and nobody knew everybody else before Shabbos.
Friday night we davened at Mercaz Harav and the meal was nice. After the meal our neighbor stopped by with three girls and we had a nice oneg. Shabbos morning Shosh woke me for shul (at 7) and off we went. Davening was really long but it was beautiful. Back at the Ranch we made kiddush and ate cake. Eventually we woke everyone and had an enjoyable - but not too long meal. Then it was time for Shabbos naps. Three hours later we actually had seudah shlishit and our neighbor stopped by again. We z'mired and shmoozed until shabbos ended. We had a 'real' havdala and then everyone helped clean up, packed up and went on their merry ways.
Well, almost everyone.
I think that Toffee, Barney and I are going to go snuggle on the couch with some hot chocolate and a book. Or maybe I should work on my scarf. It has gotten soooo much colder here in the last 2 weeks.
Thursday, November 09, 2006
Well, I had a bad start to my morning. Rushed to catch a bus and wound up giving the driver my BS/JM cartisiya instead of my inner-city one. Well, there went a ride Home.
Work was. Turns out the bosses have decided that they are sick and tired of travelling so they cancelled the second leg of their journey and will be returning to Israel in time to come to the office on Sunday. Whoopee? Well, that only SLIGHTLY messes up my schedule.
On a fun note, I picked up mine and Ray's stuff from Kad V'chomer. Our projects came out sooooo cutely!!!
Back at the Ranch Shosh and I started cooking. Then Mommy and Brenda showed up bearing gifts of cakes and quilts (in exchange for a masslage.) Shosh and I introduced ourselves to the 'new neighbors' and made friends and even got 2 matresses to borrow for shabbos. Then Mommy took me out to Angel's for some fresh bourekkas and rugelach. YUM!
Dum and her friend Dina came tonight too. Things are falling into place. The floor is clean (Thanks Shosh), The Knish kugel is made (Thanks Shosh), The carrot kugel is made (Thanks Shosh), The meatballs are made (Thanks Shosh), The bathrooms are clean (Thanks Shosh)... Getting the picture?
Alrighty, time to drink some hot chocolate and sleep.
So, I met up with Little Brother. (After going to the back of the back and not just the back.) Then he made ME decide what to do and where we should go. (How unfair is that?)
The REAL reason that I am blogging a post-midnight post however is pertaining to what we wound up doing. Basically, we wanted to check out the 'Geulah Riots' for ourselves. Enough of this hear-say from our peers, we wanted to see the situation with our own eyes.
All I can say is, chaval I didn't have a camera with me. The sight was unreal.
Firstly, mounted police everywhere.
Secondly, the mob-squads and riot police.
Thirdly, the 'protestors' themselves.
It was wild. Kikar Shabbat is a total wreck. The traffic lights are out and the street signs are smashed. There are the mangled skeletal remains of a car that has been lit on fire more than once lying pathetically on the corner while the streets are littered and still the garbage frogs burn brightly, melting into puddles of sludge and unaware of the panic and choas that the 'Gay Parade' and 'Anti-Gay-Parade-Protets' are causing in our quiet little city.
Thanks much Little Brother! I enjoyed and next time - we'll get pizza. ;)
Wednesday, November 08, 2006
Work absolutely flew by. Shosh came and we went out to satisfy my chinese craving. Of course, by the time we got there my 'lunch' break was over but back at the office there was nothing to be done (shhh...never say that outloud in the office.) so we took over the conference room and made a meeting of it.
Walked back to the Ranch and stopped on the way to pick up some fresh fluffy rugelach from the bakery. (Because a chocolate bar wasn't nearly enough sugar to tide me over.)
Little Brother is supposed to be coming to The City tonight and hopefully he will remember to call me and then we can hang out for a bit. (Of course, I'll bring Barney. Little Brother, I think he misses you.)
One more day to the week. Where has the time gone? This week ממש flew. Absolutely crazy.
And for the record Z, the Gods adore me...

Work. So, I was left alone at the desk at 3 with work for 3 people. Was supposed to leave at 5:30 but wound up staying until 7. Ran out to catch a 39, but they aren't running down Yafo due to the הפגנות in גאולה and מאה שערים. Have I mentioned that מאה שערים is a golden haze. Funniest thing is, they took down the traffic lights at Kikar Shabbos. So I went to catch a 21. At בית וגן I walked down Hapisga to Chaya's vort. MAZAL TOV CHAYA! So, she's engaged. Finally. And now it's official!!! YAY!!! Left the vort at around 9:45 and took a detour to שערי צדק to visit Freddie. We shmoozed in the מיון and then went back to her building to drink some hot-chocolate. After draining the dredges of sugar goop Freddie walked me out to שד' הרצל to catch a bus. I hopped on a random 23 with a very obliging bus-driver and as we headed down towards the entrance to the city I caught sight of 2-3 benches on fire. (The חרדים are not so happy about the parade planned for Friday.)
Have I mentioned that there are basically no 'Frogs' left in the city? Most of them have been set on fire and are now little mounds of mushy melted plastic goop with wheels. The city smells a little funky from all of the 'demonstrations' but that aside almost everything is perfect in Jerusalem.
Yes, perfection in Jerusalem...

Got to work on time.
That certainly sounds like the ideal kind of day to me.
Not to mention that for lack of anything better to do I offered to run a bunch of the random errands, which afforded me the opportunity to wander around Jeru for close to an hour and a half.
The weather was beautiful today. 100% sweatshirt weather! Clear, crisp and chilly.
Speaking of 'hehe's, Little Brother passed another test today. At least, I think thats what he said. Which means... It's almost present time!!! Yippee!! I'm so excited!
I'd better work on my scarf...
Winter is coming.
Sunday, November 05, 2006
Woke up at 5:30. Caught an 8:20 bus. Made it to the office on time. It was a boooooring day. I filed and played solitaire. (BTW Sis, you look as adorable as ever! Even in the big coat!)
Luckily the rain stopped for my walk back to the Ranch. I ate some breakfast for dinner and shmoozed with Freddie and me'Abba.
Thanks to the yo's for shlepping all my stuff to the Ranch for me. It was very much appreciated!
Happy news for today, aside for all the rain (which I take for all it's worth as a סימן ברכה) is that Mitch and Nancy are coming to visit in a couple of weeks! I'm soooo excited!! And this time we won't have to wash any dishes in the bathtub!!! (Nancy, maybe Freddie and I will even clean the bathroom!)
Final thoughts for today, the world is quite a screwy place. Can't please everyone and sometimes you can't please anyone. Though, you have got to do what you feel is right. Is it my fault that I am a hot-headed, right-wing, zionistic, fanatic? I don't know. My country means so much to me as do the laws by which I have chosen to live my life. I in no way wish to impose those rules upon others however, I do ask that they understand that there are certain protocols in The Land. I sincerely ask forgiveness from anyone who was hurt in my earlier rant. It was my overzealous pride and it got out of hand. It is a fault of mine and I must learn to control it.

Woke up on time enough for Shul and made it there only 20 minutes late. Lunch was nice and light (specially cause we're back on our chalavi swing...) Slept on the big chair (first time in forever) Went to the park with Mommy, Toffe and the Dibble. First we went down all the twisty slides and then we 'swingeded' on ALL of the swings. Back at Home I sat on the front porch for a while and the Ora came over, so we shmoozed and learned a bit.
We learned about why it was in Miriam's z'chut that there was a well in the desert and the spiritual aspect of wells and the beauty of digging to find the spiritual buried deep inside of each and every one of us.
Love the smile, hate the mind (or lack thereof.) The problem is, they think I care. It is true, in order to hate, one must care about that which they are directing the emotion towards. Somehow, indifference seems so much simpler. I have followed that route thus far. I think I shall continue along the path I have chosen.

Work was the usual yuckish. Though, I did get to go out. A super-fast Graphos (cause I can be pushy...) and far-away-post-office jaunt. And, let us not forget the taste-treats. All of them. And the iced-coffee. Bright side, the bosses are going away on Sunday - for a week. HAHAHA!!!
After work I headed back to the Ranch to pack up. Shosh surprised me and was waiting for me when I got there. So we got to spend some time together and then I packed up and headed out again.
Met up with my Sis after somehow missing each other and we headed to Kad V'chomer. It is a really great place to chill - for anyone looking for something fun to do... Anywho, we bonded over our cups and paints and brushes and stencils and my demented spider. On the bright side, we made polka dots. How much fun is that?! I can't wait till we pick up the finished products in a week! Then we made our way back to TM to catch the last busses back Home. Plenty of time to spare and dude, I am sooooo full of pizza! ew.
Who woulda thunk that the midnight bus would be sooooo crowded? Crazy, huh?
Ooooh, Daniel Bedingfield's 'Wrap My Words Around You' just came on, I'm off - gotta put it on repeat before it ends! G'nite World!
Wednesday, November 01, 2006
After work I jumped on a 6 where I struck up a conversation with some random stranger about books. He gave me the greatest compliment that I've gotten in weeks. It was flattering in a sense. Though, I wholeheartedly agree with him! (And why oh why can't they be puppies and pancakes?!)
I got off the bus and made my way to Freddie's place. We shmoozed until she was ready to go out and then we headed to Bayit V'gan. Waited till she was 'oiyss' and then got some (more) pizza. Then we walked back towards the hopsickal and I hopped on a 16 back to my side of town.
Now it's back to "Interview With the Vampire" I'm back on my freakish Anne Rice kick. Ok, so I'm strange. Nuuu, tell me something I don't know...
