Miz Ruh Bul

Pencil Hello There! It's me again! Do you like my pencil? I drew it myself in Illustrator. I'm a very imaginationally challenged person at the moment.

We've been super-busy in school. In Computer Graphics our final project is to choose any product label and to re-create it 'exactly' in Illustrator. I'm working on a tube of my favorite Suave moisturizer. It's not an easy project. Seriously.

In Web Design we've almost finished CSS which means that we can make our pages and sites uniform with just a few simple commands.

Graphic Design is moving along nicely as well. We're deep into 'colors' and the science behind them.

As you can see from my homework below, we've covered tints, shades, saturations, brightnesses:
Color BlendsWe're exploring the exciting world of the color wheel (yup, I got to mix paint colors for homework. How much fun is that?!) We then moved on to creating compositions in combinations of colors; monochromatic, complementary and analagous.
Tomorrow is 'photography' day, and we're going on another field trip. This time we'll be visiting 'The Mashbir' in the Center of Town. We'll be learning about reflections, white light and all sorts of other stuff. (Stay tuned for the photos.)
As a sort of extra-curricular activity, Z and I will be hosting a family Channukah Party at The Ranch. So, I've got to find time to get out to the paper-goods store and to Geulah and to the shuk to pick up everything we'll need.

Channukah is in less than a week and we haven't got a menorah.
Hmmm, maybe I ought to go figure out that one instead of playing on the computer...

Itchbugs & Footmice...

When I left my last class of the day it was drizzling, I made the decision that the smartest way to get home would be on a bus. I ran out to the 'far away' bus stop and somehow as luck would have it the bus pulled up as I got there. As I got off the bus and made my way the 3 blocks to my apartment I smiled to myself realizing that had I walked I would still be approximately 2.5 kilometers from my destination. Then I started humming "Yankee Doodle" and I even splashed through a few puddles just for the fun of it.

Today was actually quite a good day. My first walk to Har Nof was all blue-skies and sunny. Photography class was exciting because we had a 'critique session' on the pictures that we took at the shuk a couple of weeks ago. Class ended a little early, so I had 2 whole hours to get home, clean a bit and prepare dinner. Then Shoshana & Dovid stopped by to say hi and I had fun showing them all of the 'improvements' that we've made at The Ranch in the last few months. I walked them out and headed back to Har-Nof on foot for the 2nd time. The walk was a bit chilly thanks to the windchill, but I had stolen Z's army fleece and was niiiice and toasty. Class was exciting. We learned the 3D effects and I was really enjoying myself creating all sorts of fun donuts and bottles. (Pictures to follow, when I have a chance to make some share-worthy things.)

I'm super-excited for class tomorrow because we're FINALLY going to start CSS. (I hope so anyway.)

In other news, I finally ordered a 500 GB external hard-drive to back up my computer onto. Sadly, I had backed-up all of my photos from 2007-present on CDs. I spent days organizing organizing them and I even invested in these neat little CD labels. (I know, bad idea.) Anyway, it seems that the CD labels unbalance the discs somehow, so my computer can't really read them unless I tilt it and get really really lucky. So, I'm hoping I'll be able to get lucky at least 1 more time and be able to transfer everything to the new external hard-drive. (I've only actually looked at the CDs 2 other times and the computer almost died from them.)

Alrighty, Zsh is FINALLY home from school so it's time to go and eat some dinner.

I've fallen behind again, but I've been... I know, excuses excuses. Sorry.

School is keeping me ridiculously busy. On Sunday I get homework which is due on Tuesday, on Monday I get homework which is due a week later, on Tuesday I get homework which is due on Sunday and homework which is due the next Tuesday, on Wednesday I get homework which is due on Thursday and on Thursday I get homework which is due on Wednesday. However, I can only do homework which is due for Sundays and Tuesdays IN school (due to the computer situation) and the homework which is due for Wednesday and Thursday (web-design) just seems to swallow hours and hours of my time at home. If you managed to follow that you'll understand that between trying to keep my house semi-organized, getting to class on time and getting my homework done, I don't really have much time. Don't feel neglected, I don't speak to Zalman much either and we lives in the same apartment, well, when he's home anyway.

So, concrete proof that I've been busy. How about some pictures? Here's the album from our photography class field trip to the shuk. CLICK HERE (There's an explanation of the exercises that we were working on at the bottom of the first page with the photo's.)

We're also moving along at a nice pace in computer graphics. We learned the 'liquify'-tools this past week. These tools distort the outlines of shapes. Here's an example of some of what you can do with it. I'm actually getting better with the 'pen tool' too. Here of some of my first few projects that I did for homework using the 'pencil tool' - there was the sign for the fruit store and then there was my pizza. (Yes, I drew them all from scratch in Illustrator.)

Still, I've got to admit that my favorite class by far is web design. I'm really enjoying learning the language and I'm seriously getting interested in the whole programming aspect. I want to be able to program and design entire database driven web-sites!!! Someday maybe I'll get the chance to learn everything that I want to learn. I'm all inspired and everything. It's great! We're just about done with learning HTML and are moving on to CSS. Our final HTML project was to create a website for a 'company' and it was a very 'rushed job' but I think it came out ok. Actually, I now realize all of the things I could have done to make it look a lot better, but I'll go back and tweak them if I get bored. Please don't actually hit the 'submit' button on the order form and please DON'T for ANY reason enter your real information (especially credit card information) because IT IS NOT a secure site. (We haven't learned how to do that yet.) Also, for some reason a few of the recipes page are having some issues, but I'll get it in order eventually (or maybe when I have some spare time. hahaha.)

Anywho - that's my update for now. We'll be in Bet Shemesh for Shabbat because it's Daddy's first Shabbat back in The Holy Land.

Have a great one!
